IF YOU CAN MAKE IT IN NEW YORK
YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE!
New York International Independent Film & Video Festival
With an impressive
screening of 300 films including features, shorts, documentaries and
animations from 28 countries around the world, Aussie film makers have shown
they can run with the best.
The
festival, which ran in New York from April to May, was founded in 1993 and
is recognized by the film and entertainment industry as one of the leading
film events on the festival calendar. New York International Independent
Film & Video Festival have proudly announced the awards from
their highly successful 2005 April-May New York event.
The
Crop directed by
Scott Patterson
and starring George Elliot who also wrote the film, scored
Best Feature Film and Holly Brisley the Best Actress
award for her portrayal of ditsy girlfriend Geraldine.
Elliot,
who attended the New York festival before going to Cannes for discussions
with international buyers said, “this type of recognition shows that the
future of the Australian film industry is alive and kicking goals on the
biggest stage in the world.”
The Crop
is a tongue in cheek look at a larrikan night club owner, Ronald 'Blade'
Gillette (GEORGE ELLIOT), who realizes two months after random breath
testing has been introduced that he is going broke. Afraid of drink driving,
they’re not buying his grog, they’re going out into the car park, smoking
marijuana, then coming back in for a glass of water and free entertainment.
Blade decides he
needs to tailor his business to suit his customer demands. Diversify and
expand. ”We’ll grow our own crop”. Excellent, one of those things that
seemed like a really good idea at the time.
What happens
next will have you on the edge of your seat with anticipation and rolling in
the aisles with laugher. In fact, ‘you’ll laugh your heads off’.
